Cookie Clicker is a game about clicking a cookie, and somehow it's hard to stop.
You begin with a single giant cookie. Each click bakes one. Spend what you earn on cursors, grandmas, farms, mines and factories, and your bakery slowly starts to run itself. Upgrades multiply your output, achievements hand out bonuses, and before long you're watching numbers climb into territory that has no business being on a cookie counter.
Where the game comes from
Cookie Clicker was created by Julien “Orteil” Thiennot and first released in 2013. It became one of the best-known idle (or incremental) games, the kind where progress keeps happening even while you're doing something else. The game has been updated many times since, with new buildings, upgrades, achievements and secrets to find.
What makes it fun
There's no time limit and no way to lose, so you can play at your own pace. A quick session might be a few clicks and one smart upgrade. A long one might mean planning your next ascension. The strategy sits underneath the silliness: what to buy, when to buy it, and when to wait.
